One plain pine board, one length of rope, one nail. The rope passes through a hole at each end of the plank and rises to a single knot above it, so the shelf hangs as a narrow triangle and swings very slightly when you set something on it.
That single fixing point is the point. There is no bracket to level, no second hole to get wrong, and nothing to unscrew if you decide later that the shelf belongs on another wall.
