A taper holder built the right way round: a heavy teardrop base swelling out at the bottom, a slim stem rising from it, and a small flared cup at the top. All of the weight sits on the table, which is what stops a tall candlestick going over when somebody reaches across for the salt.

The finish is mirror polished stainless steel, so it picks up the candle flame and everything else on the table. It comes in three heights on a common 8 cm (3.1 in) base, or as a set of three, which is how it is meant to be used: a tall one, a middle one and a short one grouped together rather than a matching pair.
