The shade is a solid piece of yellow travertine, carved into an organic gourd form that swells wide at the base and draws in to a narrow neck. Every one is different, because the pitting and banding that run through travertine are the stone's own record rather than a printed pattern.
Lit, the glow spills from the open mouth beneath and washes warm across whatever sits below. The cord adjusts across a generous 1.8 m (5.9 ft), which is why it works hung low beside a bed as easily as dropped from a tall ceiling over a table. It takes a standard E27 bulb and is rated for a space of roughly 3 to 5 square meters (32 to 54 sq ft).

Travertine is laid down in bands and pitted with small natural voids, and the carving cuts straight through them. The grain on your shade is the record of one particular piece of stone.

The Glow Comes From Below
The stone is solid, so the light does not pass through it. It escapes from the open mouth underneath instead, which puts a warm circle exactly where you want it and leaves the rest of the room quiet.

Is it really stone?
Yes, the shade is carved from yellow travertine, a natural limestone. That is why the color shifts in bands across it and small pits show in the surface. Those are the stone's own features, not flaws, and they differ from one shade to the next.
Does light shine through the stone?
No. The travertine is solid and opaque, so all the light leaves through the open mouth at the bottom. It gives a focused warm pool below rather than a general glow, which is what makes it good at a bedside or over a small table.
How is it switched on?
It has a touch on and off switch on the fitting itself, so it can go up in a spot with no wall switch, which is common at a bedside. It runs on 90 to 260 V and is not dimmable.
Does it come with a bulb?
No, and that is worth knowing before it arrives. It takes one standard E27 screw bulb, which you supply. The upside is that you choose the output and the warmth yourself, and a warm filament bulb suits the stone particularly well.
